Cambridge is ranked No. 1 among the leading UK universities in the Guardian University Guide 2012, followed by Oxford in second place and St Andrews in third place nationally.
The University of St Andrews remained as the top university in Scotland and the only Scottish institution in the Guardian's top 10, moving up one place from 4th in last year's table. It has eleven subjects ranked among the top 5 in the UK. These are Biology, Chemistry, English (5), Management, Classics, History & History of Art (4), Computer Science, Physics (2), Mathematics, International Relations and Divinity (3).
The London School of Economics and Political Science has been ranked as the top university in London and the UK's fourth best university, a rise of four places compared to its position in the 2011 guide.
Lancaster University is ranked 7th out of 120 institutions in the UK. 88% of students were satisfied with teaching at Lancaster while 87% were satisfied overall. Lancaster University also scored highly in the individual subject rankings: Physics and Geography & Environmental Sciences were both ranked 4th; Mathematics and Sociology both 6th; Religious Studies & Theology 8th; Art&Design 9th; Business and Management Studies 10th; and Law and Computer Science & IT both 11th.
