The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is an innovative university located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.

The University has the following faculties: Faculty of Business and Information Technology; Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies; Faculty of Education; Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science; Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science; Faculty of Health Sciences; Faculty of Science.

UOIT is Ontario’s first laptop-based university. The University is a member of the Shared Heirarchal Academic Research Computing Network (SHARCNET), one of the world's most powerful high-performance computing consortia. The University has partnerships with a wide variety of companies including General Motors of Canada, Ontario Power Generation, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, Bell Canada, and more.

UOIT has one of the highest rates of professors with PhDs among Canadian universities.

Ratings and Rankings:

- Rated 12th overall in the Maclean's Primarily Undergraduate category due in part to first-place rankings in the Investments in Student Services, Library Acquisitions and Social Sciences and Humanities Grants categories (2009). It also placed 4th in the Medical/Science category and 5th in Total Research Dollars.

- In the Globe's Canadian University Report (2009), UOIT scored an A for Campus Technology and Class Size, followed by an A-minus for Most Satisfied Students, Quality of Education, Student-Faculty Interaction, Teaching, Campus Atmosphere, Buildings and Facilities, and Recreation and Athletics.

- Named one of the top 50 research universities in the country by Research Infosource Inc., Canada's leading provider of research intelligence for business and higher education. It is the youngest academic institution to be named to the prestigious Canada Top 50 Research Universities List for 2008
