University of Waterloo Top Rankings

The University of Waterloo (UW) is one of Canada's leading comprehensive institutions with outstanding reputation as the most innovative university in the country. It was the first university in North America to create a Faculty of Mathematics.

The University has the following Faculties: Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Environment, Faculty of Mathematics, Faculty of Science.

- Ranked 113th globally in the Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings 2009, moving up 16 places from 129th in 2008.

- Ranked 1st in the categories of Leaders of Tomorrow and Best Overall. Waterloo was named Most Innovative for the 18th year in a row (Maclean's magazine, 2009). In addition it is ranked 1st in the Student Award category, and finished first institutions in Scholarships and Bursaries. It is placed 2nd among comprehensive universities in Awards Per Full-Time Faculty as well as Social Sciences and Humanities Grants. It finished 3rd for Medical/Science Grants to faculty and Total Research Dollars.

- Placed 201-302nd globally in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2009.

- 94th internationally in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, January 2009.

- Placed among the world's top 100 universities for Engineering & IT (27th) and Natural Sciences (56th) in THE-QS Rankings 2009.

- Ranked Canada’s No. 1 comprehensive research university in the annual “Canada Top 50 Research Universities” survey conducted by Research Infosource (2009).

- Ranked 3rd overall in the comprehensive category (Maclean’s 18th Annual Ranking of Canadian Universities).

- Ranked 201-302nd in the world, 100-136th in North America, and 76-107th in Engineering Technology/Computer Science (ARWU 2007).
