Established in 1883, The University of Auckland is New Zealand's largest and top ranked university, consistently rated as one of the best universities in the world. It is member of Universitas 21 and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.

The University of Auckland Business School is one of Asia Pacific’s leading research-led business schools with triple accreditations from EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB. The Department of Accounting and Finance is renowned for its research excellence and innovative teaching. Students majoring in accounting in the BCom or BBIM degrees can satisfy the academic requirements for obtaining membership to two professional accounting bodies: the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) or CPA Australia.

- It is New Zealand’s No. 1 university and is the only one ranked among the world’s top 100 universities by the Times Higher Education - QS World Rankings of Universities 2009. Overall it is placed 61st in the world. Additionally it is ranked in the global top 40 for the following subjects: Social Sciences (37th) and Life Sciences and Biomedicine (40th).
- Placed in the range of 201 - 302nd internationally (ARWU 2009).
- In the Government’s Performance-Based Review Fund (PBRF) report, the University has the largest number of research degree completions in the nation and the highest level of research income of any NZ university. In the latest round in 2006 Auckland had 200 of the 600 A-rated researchers in the country.
- The 2006 PBRF results confirm The University of Auckland Business School’s leadership position in having the greatest concentration of leading researchers (A and B rated) in the Business and Economics Panel in the country.
