The University of Southampton is ranked as one of the World’s Top 100 Universities by THES-QS World Rankings (2008: 99th , 2007: 80th , 2006:141st). In 2008 it is one of only 17 UK universities to make the top 100 list.

- it is one of only 29 British universities to be listed in the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) World University rankings, placed 141st internationally in 2006.

- 3rd in Mechanical Engineering and 4th in Aerospace Engineering (The Times 2007).
