Institutions with significant improvements in the 2009 league table are:
- Sydney up a place from 37th in 2008 to 36th in 2009.
- Melbourne, UQ and Monash moved up two places from the previous rankings.
- Adelaide back in top 100 from 106th in 2008.

In 2006 Thirteen institutions from Australia made it to the Top 200 list. ANU was named the Best Australian Univ. It was ranked first nationally, followed by Melbourne and Sydney.
