* The University of York moved up the ranking from 9th to 5th in 2009. It is ranked 5th for Biosciences out of 90 UK Universities, according to the Guardian University Guide 2009. In 2010 it jumped up to 2nd place in the nation. The Biology Department at York has been rated 8th out of more than 90 departments in the UK for teaching by the Times Good University Guide 2007.

Aston Univ was rated in the top 10 in the Guardian Newspaper league tables for Biosciences in 2005 and 2008 - out of over 90 UK universities. Its Biological Sciences degrees were rated highly in the National Student Survey (2006), with an overall satisfaction score of 4.5 out of a possible 5 - the third equal highest score in the UK.
