Following are the rankings of Top 15 Universities in Pakistan according to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC). In the General Universities (Large) category of HEC rankings 2012, University of the Punjab is ranked 1st nationally, followed by University of Karachi in 2nd place and Bahauddin Zakariya University in 3rd place. In the General Universities (Medium) category, Quaid-i-Azam University is ranked 1st in the nation and ahead of Government College University, Lahore (2nd). In the General Universities (Small) category, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics took the top spot and followed by University of Faisalabad in 2nd place nationally.
