The Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University has just released the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for 2011. A total of 35 Chinese universities ranked among the world's top 500 in 2011, with National Taiwan University, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Tsinghua University rated among global top 200.

A total of 10 UK universities are ranked in the world's top 100, with University of Cambridge rated 1st in the nation and 5th in the world, ahead of University of Oxford (10th globally) and University College London (20th globally, moving up a place from 21st in the 2010 world rankings).

In Canada, University of Toronto is ranked 1st in the country and 26th in the world. A total of 4 Canadian institutions ranked within the global top 100. The others are: University of British Columbia (37th internationally), McGill University (64th internationally), and McMaster University (89th internationally).

In Australia, University of Melbourne is ranked 1st in the country and 60th among the world's best institutions, ahead of The Australian National University (70th internationally), The University of Queensland (86th internationally), and University of Sydney (96th internationally).
