Founded in 1873, North Georgia College & State University (NGCSU) is a leading public university located in Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, Georgia, US. It is the state's second-oldest university, and one of the senior military colleges in the United States.

North Georgia College and State University is the first co-educational college in the state and the first public college in Georgia to admit women.

NGCSU has the following academic schools: Mike Cottrell School of Business; School of Education; School of Arts & Letters; School of Science & Health Professions.

The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The School of Business is accredited by AACSB International. All teacher education programs are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Master of Science degree in Community Counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

In addition the university is an accredited member of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools, and the Association of Georgia Colleges.
