Pohang University of Science and Technology was ranked 1st globally in the Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 rankings for 2013, followed by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 2nd place and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 3rd place.

The University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) was ranked 1st among U.S. universities under 50 years old and 5th worldwide by Times Higher Education. It is the second consecutive year that the campus has ranked in the top five.

The University of Victoria (Canada) was placed 1st in Canada for the second consecutive year, 5th in North America and 20th worldwide in the Times Higher Education's 100-under-50 rankings.

The University of Calgary has again been named one of the best young universities in Canada. It was ranked 2nd in Canada and 23rd in the world among universities under 50 years of age. The university moved up in the rankings from 28th in 2012 to 23rd this year.

The University of Newcastle (Australia) has moved up five places to be 40th in the Times Higher Education independent ranking of the world's best universities under 50 years old.
