Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) is the top ranked university in Pakistan, according to the 2012 HEC (Higher Education Commission) ranking of universities in Pakistan. Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) is ranked 2nd overall in the nation and followed by Aga Khan University, Karachi (2nd nationally).

In another league table by Webometrics (January 2012), University of the Punjab is ranked 1st in the country (1781st globally) among the Top Colleges and Best Universities of Pakistan. Lahore University of Management Sciences is ranked 2nd nationally and followed by National University of Sciences & Technology in 3rd place.
