Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is ranked No. 1 among the top engineering colleges in India, according to the Outlookindia.com (2011), ahead of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2nd), Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (3rd), and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (4th).

In another ranking by India Today, IIT Kanpur is ranked No. 1 among the best engineering colleges for 2011, followed by IIT Delhi in second place nationally and IIT Kharagpur in third place nationally.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has been ranked the No. 1 engineering college in the country on the basis of placement record, intellectual capital, infrastructure and industry interface, according to an IDC-Dataquest-Nasscom survey. It is also ranked highly in the international league tables: 63rd in the world for Engineering & IT (QS World University Rankings 2010); Rated 79th in Asia and 619th in the world (Ranking Web of World universities, July 2011).
