Following are the leading universities in the U.S. state of Iowa:

Iowa State University - Ranked 88th in the "Best National Universities" category, which contains 262 American universities (164 public and 98 private) that offer a wide range of undergraduate majors, as well as master's and doctoral degrees (US News 2010).

University of Iowa -  It is one of only two public universities in the Midwest listed as "best buys" according to the Fiske Guide to Colleges, 2008.

Drake University - Rated No. 2 in reputation for academic quality (peer assessment). The University also increased its overall score from 84 to 86 while remaining 4th in the overall rankings of Midwest universities that provide a full range of undergraduate and master's programs (USNWR 2008).

Graceland University - In 1917, Graceland received accreditation of the states of Iowa and Missouri and from the North Central Association of Colleges, making it the first fully accredited junior college in Iowa.

Maharishi University of Management - The National Survey of Student Engagement placed the University among the top 3% of U.S. colleges for “active and collaborative learning”.

St. Ambrose University - The Teacher Education program is the first in the state of Iowa to earn national accreditation from the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

University of Northern Iowa - It was selected by G.I. Jobs Magazine as a Military Friendly School for 2010, an honor placing the university in the top 15% of schools nationwide doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students.

Upper Iowa University - The Online MBA Program is named a “Best Buy Distance MBA” by GetEducated.com.

Kaplan University - It is ranked 17th in the Online Education Database Rankings of Top online undergraduate universities/colleges 2008.

Buena Vista University - It is ranked 11th among Tier 1 Baccalaureate Colleges (Midwest) by US News & World Report (2010). The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Des Moines University - Founded in 1898, DMU is the second oldest osteopathic school in the country. It offers degree programs in medicine and the health sciences.
