Caltech is ranked 4th among the top 10 private colleges and universities on the Princeton Review's list of the Best Value Colleges for 2011. The rankings were determined based on undergraduate academics, costs, financial aid, the percentage of graduating seniors who borrowed from any loan program, and the average dollar amount of debt those students had at graduation. Swarthmore College is ranked No. 1 for the second year, with Duke University and Princeton College ranked second and third.

Knox College and the University of Chicago are the only schools in Illinois to make the top 50 Best Value private colleges. In December, Knox was ranked among the top 50 Best Values in Liberal Arts Colleges for 2009-2010 by Kiplinger's.

Claremont McKenna College (CMC) is one of the nation’s 50 “Best Value” private colleges and universities for 2011. The college is also ranked in the following categories in the 2011 edition of The Best 373 Colleges: “Happiest Students” (#2); “Best Quality of Life” (#4); “Best Career Services” (#7); “School Runs Like Butter” (#7); “Dorms Like Palaces” (#8); “Most Politically Active Students” (#10); and “Most Popular Study Abroad Program” (#11) among others.
